About Us

David Butler is a southerner who has lived in the North-East of England for more than thirty years and has grown to love the area. He has led guided walks and walking holidays around the city, the county, and the wider North-East for more than twenty-five years; including his, now traditional, Christmas Day and Halloween walks in Durham City. He is also an archivist and local historian who has written and lectured extensively on aspects of the nineteenth century history of Durham City.

The city walks are a blend of serious personally-researched historical facts with more light-hearted anecdote and legend, and attempt to answer the questions which are often raised by visitors to Durham. The country walks can be of any length you wish and will be tailored to meet your special needs.
